Highway Discard- An Update on "Rags"

This entry was posted on 3/9/2006 10:30 PM and is filed under Matters of the Heart.

My little highway discard that now resides in my kitchen is doing well. She is a perfect little house pet. She is crippled and cannot do stairs so the place I have her in the busiest part of the house with an easy shot to the front yard to potty serves her just fine. She likes to watch the activities and is settling in well. It might be that tomarrow will be a good day for a stinky old dog to have a bath. She is comfortable with me now and though she hurts from the effects of age and some ancient injuries I think she trusts that I will be ever so careful with her and let me clean her up. She has yet to complain a bit. She likes her bed, the good food and clean water. I think she is surprised that a human notices her. Sometimes she acts like she thinks I am going to grab her and hurt her and then she realizes it is me and her body ceases to tense and she smiles. I think she can still see pretty well because she reacts to my smiles. I would not be surprised if some hearing returns after a NASTY ear problem with blood and laceration clears up. Heartworm and Lyme Disease tests may determine her future. Perhaps we will be able to revitalize this old girl more than we know at this time.

Her name is Rags. I like this little dog. Hope to find her a ride to Michigan or someone going that way on the Interstate (is it Interstate 80?) where she could be picked up by my Mom or one of her friends. We could help with some cash for gas.
